Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals! For our 2020 Christmas special, we’re tackling the beloved 1990 classic, Home Alone.
Tom takes Morgan back 30 years and tells the story of how John Hughes and Chris Columbus made a box office juggernaut in the shape of a festive caper starring unknown child star Macaulay Culkin.
The boys relive all 5 (yes, 5…) Home Alone films (good and very, very bad), and also remember the strange things they were scared of as kids, reminisce about how good John Candy was, and Tom laments how he never got a TalkBoy for Christmas.
Home Alone came out in November 1990, and followed the exploits of 8-year-old Kevin McAllister, who is left home (alone) by accident by his not-so-brilliant parents, as they head to Paris for the holidays.
As his mother frantically tries to get back (they didn’t have smartphones back then, kids), Kevin has to fend for himself while thwarting local robbers, Harry and Marv, aka the Wet Bandits.
It proved to be a massive success, spawning a sequel Lost in New York in 1992, as well as three other forgettable releases not starring Culkin, Joe Pesci and the rest.
With the film celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2020, and a true sequel coming soon on Disney+, what better time to remember a festive classic?
